Des Moines Metro BMX Club was founded in 1999 to develop a BMX track. With the support of Des Moines Parks and Recreation, City and County Public Works, the Apprenticeship Coordinators of the Building and Trades Unions, and the IronWorkers Local 67, and many volunteers including pro bono services of an architect and attorney. Des Moines Metro BMX Track was planned and developed with the inaugural race held in Ewing Park Sunday, August 12, 2001. Since its inception, hundreds of riders from throughout the country have raced at our track on Thursday evenings (June-August) and Sundays (April-October). Our volunteers give generously of their time, energy, and effort to assure that BMX racing continues to be a family oriented sport providing youth and adults a healthy, recreational outlet.
